Old Edwards Club Spicy Bloody Mary with Veggie-Infused Vodka
At Old Edwards Club in Highlands, North Carolina, members convene every year from May through November for the Blue Ridge Mountain golf lifestyle. They come from most points south for cool mountain air, summer cookouts, swimming, tennis, themed member dinners, and Chef David Young’s famous southern cooking.
As in most golf clubs filled with friends and members, it’s the clubhouse bar that livens up first thing when the golfers come off the course. And, on summer Sundays and various other occasions, it’s the Spicy Bloody Mary with Veggie-Infused Vodka that gets the party started. Clubhouse Manager Jimmy Blyther, who also doubles as a clever and crafty mixologist, shares his recipe for this member-pleasing concoction. (See recipe below photo.)
1 ½ bottles of Vodka
2 green bell peppers seeded and cut into wedges
2 red bell peppers seeded and cut into wedges
1 large sweet onion peeled and cut in to wedges
4 cloves of garlic peeled
4 jalapenos, seeded and halved lengthwise
10 or so large pimento stuffed olives
Bloody Mary Mix
Pour the vodka into a large sealable jar or container and add ingredients.
Let the vodka and vegetable infusion for a week shaking it every day.
Assembling the Bloody Mary
To make the bloody Mary, add your preferred amount of infused vodka to your favorite bloody Mary mix, pour over ice, add your favorite garnishes and enjoy! If you don’t have a favorite bloody Mary mix, we recommend giving Charleston Mix a try, as any proper Southerner would do, of course.
